From the Founder:
I started this business after years of being in the auto industry. I always have had a passion for detailing and really find it therapeutic. I can remember at a very young age washing my families cars and then taking pictures of them and putting them in a filing cabinet. Little did I know this was the beginning of an obsession with detailing cars.
My father is an auto mechanic and I worked with him for many years as a technician and customer service rep.Throughout my junior and senior year of high school I worked for an auto detailing company a friend of mine owned. I eventually got into the import scene and modifying cars working with a longtime friend at Japanese Engine Import in Sterling, VA. I didn’t get paid to detail there but can remember spending hours and hours detailing my own cars with the little knowledge I had at the time. After a few years working there, I decided to go back to school which I was never a big fan of but thought I needed a degree to be successful.
During my few semesters at a local community college I detailed a few cars here and there for side cash and decided to take the plunge and buy a mobile detailing rig. I had detailed plans of how to set up my trailer, where and how to market, and what hours I could work to get me through school. I was literally weeks away from buying the trailer and going full time in the third semester in college. I got a phone call and dove into another business venture and started a franchise restaurant with my uncle and cousin. I thought at the time this was what I would do forever. I had always wanted to own my own business and this was my chance.I put being a detailer behind me and moved forward with the franchise. About three years into the restaurant business, two friends of mine opened NOVA Speed Shop in Gainesville, VA. We had always talked about how we all wanted to end up in the car scene again one day.
I read a book called The Crossroads of Should and Must by Elle Luna and it really opened my eyes to making my work about passion and doing something that makes you happy. This is a great book to help you find a path to happiness in a career. This got me thinking about how I could break back into the industry. I spent months thinking about what my place in this industry could be. I loved the mechanical aspect of automotive work but I didn’t love it enough to be doing it as my career. I just couldn’t get excited about it. My wife, Martha, kept telling me over and over again I needed to do something with cars. She knew I had that passion for cars but we both didn’t know what area I should focus on. My wife and I purchased a used Acura TSX after we got married and the paint was in terrible shape. I decided to buy a DA polisher kit and give it a go. The results were stunning and I loved every second of it. I started doing some research on different methods, tools, products and procedures for hours a day. I couldn’t get enough of articles, videos and podcasts about detailing. Testing each product and procedure to find what works best. I started sharing my work with others and doing friends cars. People started offering me money to do their cars and it pretty much snowballed into something over the last few years. I again read the book The Crossroads of Should and Must and it couldn’t have been more apparent that detailing was my must.
I had found what I loved to do. It didn’t feel like work at all. The guys at NOVA Speed Shop were nice enough to give me a locker and space to work each weekend. In all honesty, I don’t think I would have pursued this business if it wasn’t for them, friends, family and most importantly my wife. They saw the potential and I had found my way back into the automotive industry that I love. My younger brother also started working with me and it was a great way to spend some time with him before he left for college. It was an added bonus the he was very detail oriented and also has a passion for cars. I decided just a short time ago that this is what I want to do forever. I love the difference I can make in the appearance and preservation of peoples’ investments. I enjoy every aspect of detailing and educating people on proper methods to maintain cars. I am excited for this new journey and wish I had reflected on the signs over the last 20 years that have been right in my face. I cant wait to share this experience with all my customers and to follow my dreams. Thank you for your business,
Ben Beitel, Owner
